To view this site in Microsoft Internet Explorer 4+ you don't need to download the font, but in some browsers you may. I'll be interested to hear your experiences in other browsers.
In order to use an Abkhazian font you will need to download and install the font. The following instructions are using Windows XP because that's what I've got, but the principals are the same for other operating systems.
First download this font to your computer:
Apsni.ttf (139 KB).
Right-click the link and select 'Save Target As'.
Save to C:\.
Then open the Control Panel
(Start >> Settings >> Control Panel) and open the Fonts icon.
From there select File >> Install New Font from the menu.
Select the font you just downloaded and click 'OK'.
That's it! Close Internet Explorer and re-open it and you should be able to use the Abkhazian font in any application.
You may find Charis SIL font useful as it also supports Abkhazian characters. You can download it from this page. Installation is similar to the instructions above.
Here is a sample of Charis SIL font: мшабзиа аҩзцәа
As an alternative to the instructions above, you could install the Microsoft Arial Unicode MS font. You can find instructions at the end of this page.

You can send an Abkhazian email much the same as any other email. The recipient will only be able to read it if he has also installed the font.
Select HTML format.
Select Unicode (UTF-8) encoding.
Type the text of your email using the keyboard on
our homepage.
Select and copy the text by clicking on in and pressing Ctrl-a then Ctrl-c.
Paste the text into your email by pressing Ctrl-v.
To change the font to Abkhazian you'll need to select it all by pressing Ctrl-a
and then choose the font from the format bar.
Send it!
Writing in Abkhazian in other programs, such as Microsoft Word,
is similar to the process described above.
You can embed the fonts in the Word document
so that you can send it to someone else
and they will be able to see them without any further action.
To do this, when you save, select the option 'Embed TrueType Fonts'.
You can find this on the menu
File >> Save >> Options
or
File >> Save >> Tools >> Options.
The Apsni font described on this page was created by me by combining two other fonts. All the characters are positioned in the correct position according to the Unicode standard for Cyrillic Page 04 described here and here (pdf). It has been embedded into this site using Weft.
